    timing cover gasket

ok actually im putting the new gasket on my 4.3 in my truck but 4.3s and 350s are almost identical right (minus 2 cylinders duh) the gasket kit i got said i have to pull off the oil pan . Now ive messed with my oil pan a million times and im NOT pulling it off. my friend said its possible to put it on without dropping it. He said to use alot of permatex. where does it go and how much do i use?

    ok... alot of permatex....

    well lets not get messy....

heres what I do....I would clean extremely well the mating surfaces....This mean clean any oil off with brake cleaner...

I use Hi-Tack or ultr copper on the paper gasket(both side) this is optional...Now as for the bottom ruber seal....throw it in the trash... Use a LITTLE adheasive silicon on the matting surfaces (parting lines) where the pan meets the block....Install the cover...

Now most important....Where the timimng cover lip meets the pan (the round part) fill this with a 1/4 inch bead of silicon....Dont go crazy you just need enough to fill the gap... A beed the size of a number 2 pencil.... Go from the side of the block all the way away around to the other side... then when done use your finger and just kind of slick it over ( make it look like it grew there) BE NEAT.....if you do this CLEAN it will not leak....
