    Harmonic Balancer

I have a '65 Chevy II with a 350, .030 over, TRW Forged Flat Tops, Comp Cam, .572 lift .300 dur. @.050. Lrg Tube Hooker Super Comp Headers, Fuelie Style Double Hump Heads w/2.02-1.60 valves.......blah, blah, blah, blah! Anyways here's my problem the motor is balanced and blueprinted internally and it is using a 6.75" Harmonic Balancer. The motor easily turns 8000 rpms and recently the Balancer has begun to seperate. I want to replace this item with an aftermarket balancer. Can I just swap out balancers? Do I need to have it rebalanced? The shop that is working on my car wants me to get a Fluidampr but these are ridiculously expensive and their balancers only come in 6.25" and 7.25" sizes or stock OEM replacement. I've found several other vendors that make 6.75" SFI approved balancers but I do not want to grenade a $6000 motor to save a few hundred bucks! Any help in this dept. would be greatly appreciated, Thanx!

The 350 balancer is neutral-balanced. As long as you replace it with a quality (not necessarily expensive) balancer, you should be ok. Just ensure the timing marks are the same in relation to the keyway.
I intend to live forever; so far, so good.
