there are alot of different things that you can do to achive better performance. I run a 78 trans am on dirt tracks. although I run super stock I have heard of different things alot of guys do. for starters, if you use the dampner pulley from like a 283 or 327 there smaller and allow the engine to rap up quicker, another thing we have done is shaved our butterflies on the carb .10" this allows quicker response times. Try taking a dremmel or die grinder to the insides of your exhaust manifold also, grind the lip out and itll breath better. we run our timing at 14 degrees advanced, that seems to help. another thing that can be done is get a recurve kit for your distributor, also along with that, unhook the advance and zip tie it open, this seems to help alot. one more thing, off of the engine, try running smaller tires, itll give you faster tire speed. dont know if any of this is help but its some of the stuff that we have tried, feel free to email me if you have any more questions
