289 rockers in a SBC?
I've got a mechanic telling me that you can run 289 rockers in a small block chevy, 283 to be specific. Something about a 1.5 (chevy) vs 1.7 (ford) rocker arm ratio that provides extra valve lift and duration.
But - how could everything line up, especially on the valve side with a different rocker off set?
I see bent valves.

I guess that you could do that, but why? Unless the engine has a performance cam in it, the change would not be worth the effort in my opinion. Better off changing the cam and knowing what you have instead of botching something up. You sure would not want a 1.7 ratio on a SBC. At least I wouldn't.
