In a 4 by, yer lookin' fer torque, not ponies and you'll have to spend some money to get it up there. At least it's a small block chevy, so it shouldn't be too bad though. What are you going to do with the truck? Will it be a daily driver? Big lift and tires? Give us a little more and maybe we can help better.

like URO said, in a 4X4 HP isnt likely what your after, low speed torque is more likely what you need. Horsepower is the result of torque +RPM...Im guessing you dont plan to see alot of RPM.
one of the cheapest ways is with longer stroke, might be better off with a 350, or 400, or a cross bred 383 for your application.
If your set on buildin the 327than you want to try to gain HP without sacraficing anymore torque at low speed than necessary, high velocity heads , like Vortecs, low rpm cam, long tube headers, dual plain intake , small cfm or spread bore carb, good ignition, etc.75 GMC C-15 factory 454, automatic, lowered

i am using it for a mud race truck. i have a 6" lift and a set of 40" swampers on it . i run it in a lot of pits and do run alot of rpm's often. i have headers and a four barrel on it now.

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
