But I guess that was the point of bulding the whole car, because nobody would believe it. But it just goes to show how little people like you know. So if you guys are ever in Panama City, FL. Come to Powerhouse drag track, and when you hear the Announcer say. "Here comes the Nash Trash, a 1970 Gremlin, 326 with a believe it or not, 2 barrell." And it runs a 4.90 with no nitrous or supercharger, be sure and come talk to us, maybe I can help show you guys what a real engine is.

im a fan of small motors and im sure there are way of getting 1'000 horses our of a 327 chevy but not with no stinkin 2 barrell send us pictures? not trying to fight i just wanna see BTW: what rearend gear are you running?
I've stayed out of this pretty much 'til now, but anytime I try to figure anything out, the math doesn't lie.
It takes 1.6 cfm to make one horsepower, so it would take 1,600 cfm to make 1,000 horsepower. These guys are saying 2-bbl and they could be fudging and using a waste-basket size 2-bbl throttle body that would flow 1,600 cfm, but the fact remains that a 326 cid motor would have to spin to 17,000 rpm's to ingest 1,600 cfm. Unless these guys are from some other planet and have access to materials that us lowly mortals do not, I'd have to say they're full of horsefeathers.
The most incredible AMC that I've personally witnessed is a full-steel AMX with no light parts whatsoever, full interior and licensed for the street, no nitrous, no blower, single 4-bbl 390 motor that runs on a 9.90 index in Super Gas at Firebird. Now that's pretty impressive!!!!!

Hey Mike, my Maverick Super Gas car used to pull the front like that once in awhile !!!!!! When it did I was usually wishing the dang thing was remote driven!!!!! That's looking at a whole lot of sky on the launch......
never had one pull both wheels off the ground. pull one wheel though. had a el camino that pulled the left front wheel off the ground. why the windshield didnt pop out ill never know. :LOL:Quote:

I just called 3 different informarion operators for Panama City, Florida and not one could give me a phone listing for any Powerhouse drag track, Powerhouse Dragway, or anyyhing close.
I think you have been eating too many Powerhouse candy bars and may be having a severe adrenalin rush.

No wonder 3 different information operators couldn't give me the phone number this morning. He said if we should come to Panama City, to go to Powerhouse Drag Track. Truth is, Powerhouse Drag STrip is in Altha, Florida, 49 miles from Panama City . So I tried to call again. the number they give 850-762-8885 has been disconnected and the operator did not have a listing for the Drag Strip.
They cant say we havent tried to verify his B.S.
I think we've all wasted enough time on these guys.

420 HP Edelbrock RPM setup for smallblock chevy. 9.5:1 Pistons, Edelbrock RPM Series aluminum heads, Edelbrock RPM Airgap manifold, Edelbrock's cam and lifter kit, & a AVS Thunder series 650 CFM Carb. Go with a big block for hp like you want, 502 or 572. Even that still won't be cheap. You need expensive bottom end parts to stay together - pistons and rods alone will cost you $1500. Forged crank - few hundred more. Hi-Perf heads - another $2K. and the timing - $2000 to time the valves. Cheaper to just buy a crate motor ready to drop in.
Lower your hp requirement or be prepared to dig real deep to pay for machine shop work, and bullet proof parts.

Tech, Normally when people are referring to a 377 they are talking about a 400 block and a 350 crank. You have to either buy a thicker bearing on the mains or you can buy a spacer which goes between the block and 350 main bearings.
You can buy an aftermarket block which is a 400 block made for a 350 crank. :) This is a popular motor for race cars. It does not have as much torque but it will turn the RPMs. A 377 is easier to hook up than a 406 or a 383 and it will really turn on top end. this works especially well in a light car such as a Nova where traction might be a problem. :LOL:

heads 350 chevy 96 truck vortec casting 10239906 and 12558062 64 cc they need to be fitted with 7\16 screwin studs and guide plates ported and polished. .650 lift duel springs no dampner.. 2.02 int 1.60 ext you can get the springs from the cam company Vortec "L31" 350 SBC heads (PN-12558060)and 12558062 is about $485.00 cheper if bare
speedway valve covers tall 910-17158 you will have to cut one side of the fins in the inside on covers so they will fit over the stud gurtals
pistons are speed pro forged alum //no hyportec floting pins
total seal plasma coated rings
rods are eagle i beam sir rods or the h beam i have I beam rods
the cam that i use is ful rollor comp cam 301-311-06RRD.95 speeyway catelog part number is 251-19134 heres the specs dur 301--311 adv 265--275 at .050 106 cl lift .614--.615

ps i run this motor in a imca mod and fun it hard up to 7100 rpms

Besides the problems of achieving 600-650 hp at the flywheeel, you have to consider how you are going to plant all that power. You will have to beef up the frame, fabricate a new rear suspension, put in a differential and axels that will hold up under that power. It would be a real kick to be able to say you have 500 hp at the rear wheels, but if you cannot put power to the pavement, then what's the use?
Eric- that set-up wouldn't get him in the money here either, I run a 436cid and it's all I can do to hook-up a 516/535 lift with a set of Sportsman heads & 205's. We run the 3/8's oval dirt here in the 15's on a weekly basis & when Nationals come here we don't even bring it out. Ron Jones comes up from Vegas with his stable & is just unbeliveable.
Rumrumm is right, it's a pick-up. 500 hp isn't realistic for the street. Can't hook it up without a LOT of money & then you won't be running pump fuel.

let me tell you all alittle about me first im a small buissness owner i used to work for american made race cars building imca mods .. when amrc went out of buisness dec 31 2004. i bought alot of equipment and the amrc mod jig and after months of redesgning i came out with the profab new imca car.. Paul Bumgardner claton in .is one of them that drives one of my cars hes points champion at Lincoln Park Speedway 2005 sponcerd by durabilt .

I just want to say that a 326 powered, 2-barrel toting, 4.90 running Gremlin would be a famous car and most likely on the web page for the track as a featured car and on about every car mag cover. Powerhouse and any other track would love it. I'd pay a dollar to see it.

american made race cars was originaly owend by danny felcor circle track motorsports in willard missouri bought it from him then i bought the american made race car jig from ctm circle track motorsports and after alot of modifications on the cars now there called prfab motorsports race cars the leggendary larry phillips ran a american made race car sum 20 years ago

lets see some of those mods. pic., here's mine, i raced with the ARA tour. we had 10 tracks in va. and nc that we ran weekly at. did pretty good with it. built the chassic myself and at the time the oldest driver in the tour. used a camero clip with a 406 cu. in. motor. we had 75 cars signed up for the tour, and ran 32 in each race. finished in the top 10 in points every yr. i raced. want bad for a almost 50 yr. old man. lets see some more round track cars.
