    3847041 Heads

Just picked up the last of the parts for a rebuild from the machine shop.

Piston pressed on the the rods and all that stuff.

I was taking the heads out to the truck and the man in the shop asked about the 041's I had.
Not really having any idea what he was talking about I sorta let hem keep on going, he went on about how rare they are and that just 10 mins before I picked mine up he had a guy wanting to buy a set.
Someone enlighten me on these heads.

What are so appealing about the "041" heads?

041's were the old 300 hp. Chevy heads. Available for only two years 69-70. They are almost the same specs. as the Camel hump heads of the sixties era. 1.94-1.50 valves. But, they have mount holes in the ends, like the later model production heads. They are good flowing "old style" heads.

    Question

    Thanks for the reply!

    So what's the buzz.
I would think that with all the heads available in the aftermarket manufactures today that they must have made something better.

It just surprized me that the machinist mentioned that they were real good heads and that someone was trying to purchase some.

Maybe they are the secret to unlimited HP for a $150.00 valve job!?

Also, does anyone have any port flow data on these old heads?
I have scoured the internet and I can't find a thing.

    041's

they are double humps without the humps. The first of the 300 horse heads with accesory bolt holes for passenger side alt mount and long water pump. I had a early 69 impala that was bought December 1968. It had these heads on it. Later Chevy put the Double humps back on them. 186 castings. There are some other #'s too.
