i had the same thing after i redid the heads on my 76 chevy. i think your only hope is to pull the intake of and replace the bum lifter. you wont need any special tools to do it , they pull right out.

i just thought of this, what if you try a heavier synthetic oil, its viscosity is always supposed to stay the same, it would be worth a try.
