Comp Cams 270H Idle
I have just finished building a chevy 350 bored .040 over with 305H.O. heads ported and polished with high lift springs and bigger valves and a performer series carb and intake with a Comp Cams 270H Magnum camshaft.
My question is about the idle of the cam, when I fire it up the idle is rough or lopey but after it warms up or as it warms up the idle smoothes out to where you can just barely hear the cam.
Is the sound of the cam supossed to smooth out or do I maybe have something out of adjustment?

is your choke staying closed too long?
we're not here for a long time, but I'm here for a good time!

I have a performer 600cfm carb but the choke is always open, been meaning to fix.

Well, a choke that isn't closing would explain the roughness at startup.
Who ever complained about an engine that ran too smoothly? The only thing I can think of is your idle is too high. Bring it down around 800 rpm with the engine warm.
Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
