More rambling about my 355
Again another post but i've figured it out.
In case you dont know, i have a 355 in need of a major rebuild, a all forged big cam high reving engine estimated 400hp in its better days.
What i want to do when i rebuild it is basically turn this streetable engine into a daily driver engine without looseing performance while still maintaining a decent budget.
Options i've considered.
If my price estimates are incorrect do tell me
New efi 350\350 hp efi engine, at 5000$ too epensive and just wouldn't match up.
Efi 2000$? Would make the engine much nicer to drive but worried about top end performance.
Stroker kit, 3000$? Just dreaming here the bigger engine would mean i could tune down the engine a bit and not loose performance.
Predator carburator 600$ Idle circut and plenty of balls to feed the engine at high rpm, This is the option i'm considering the most because of the price. I'm really interesting if anyone has an opinions about these things and how well they work.
Locked out timeing 500$ I'm considering getting a new distributor and timeing computer replace the old hei in addition to any of the above and is originally was going to be the addition to the engine, the timeing computer in addition to the start/retard function has a 1 stage retard which would be wonderful for nitrious which i plan to put back on the engine and is what i'm assumeing stretched my timeing chain which has caused me all my engine problems.
All these would be in addition to the cost of the engine rebuilt, probably new rings, a gearset, headers and hopefully nothing else. I'm no mechanic and i will be haveing a profesional shop rebuild the engine and do any modifications.
I'm interested to know what you all would do in my situation. Any advice or comments about the options would be greatly appreciated. The more money i spend the longer i'm going to have to wait, and the longer i will be without a means of transportation.
P.S. if you have any ideas that are not mentioned above feel free to say so because i need help!Last edited by -VS-; 03-30-2005 at 03:33 PM.

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
