    hi everyone im very new here and to get things started i need to
    about my motor supposedly it's a 400 sb chevy it''s out of my dads tow truck (he owns a junk yard YIP YIP YEE HOO) and my dad and brother keep saying it has balls but i need to find out.
    the v.i.n is 3951509 the suffix is (last three letters) CSU and it only has two freeze plugs on each side the heads have 333882 on them and i hope and pray it has 265 horse power not 150 like ive read somewhere! but all help is appriciated please go easy on me im only 16

    hey thanks but the torque is probably why it can pull cars so good this one my dad got pissed at these people in fornt so he nailed down on it and the dulies laid rubber down the street it was awsome (we were pulling a car to by the way not bragging just stating a fact) hey thanks again!

    more info for the motor my dad broght in this 1967 pontiac catalina the people we got it from had dropped the motor(the 400) and dented the oil pan the thoght they had broke the crank so they just sold the car to us that where the motor came from i think they might have rebuilt it i hope not i ment to say dualies like 4 tires on a tow truck im red neck like that

    400s are torquey motors not high HP motors, but that doesn't mean you cant boost the HP... with a rebuild you could easily get some HP by boring it, decking it a little bit, mill and port and polish the heads, add a mild cam, a better intake and a 4bbl carb... those 76cc heads alone kill a lotta power... if you mill the heads right you can cut down the combustion chamber size and raise compression to a little tastier amount....

    im building a sbc400 right now done alot of research about 2 years specifically on 400 blocks. 2 bolt block is better than 4 bolt; thicker webbing in block just add 4bolt stock or splayed caps and have align bored/honed and it doesnt take a whole lot to make em fly
    IF IT AINT BROKE TRY TO FIX IT ANYWAY
