Need Some Advise on Heads
i'm running a 1979 350 4bolt main except it has dished pistons...it has been completely rebuilt has a crane cam airgap intake,600cc edelbrock, ceramic headers and more my heads are really holding me back... i was in a bind at the time and put on a set of fresh 305 heads i had laying around....i've been told there really holding me back and choking my motorand i need more compression to make my cam work correctly...i wanna run around 10:1 if i can...canadian gas i can go up to sunoco 94 i have a line on sportsman sr 52cc heads what would i be looking for to get what i need....

Have you checked on newer Vortec heads. They are about equal to "double hump" heads from the late 60's. Can't remember specs right off hand.It ain't broke if you can fix it.

I agree. The 305 heads are not suited for use on a 350 (or even a 327). What ever horse power boost you get from the higher compression ratio is lost because the small valves will not pass the air you need.
Since you already have an intake I would pass on the Vortec heads and use use the Sportsman SR (Street replacement) heads.An Old California Rodder

Is that carb enough to feed that motor? Check how your plugs are burning, your heads might not be the only thing holding you back.
I saw last night on fb about John. The world sure lost a great one. I'm going to miss his humor, advice, and perspective from another portion of the world. Rest in Peace Johnboy.
