See if this spreadsheet helps you.
The first thing you need to realize is that you don't have to look at pistons earmarked for 427's. There are a lot of pistons which are for 454's which will work for your application. Case in point. You have a block with a deck height of 10.2" (maybe). So What I did was cut it down to 10.16 (.030" clean up to get square, you can adjust this however you need to). Then look at the pistons available. In this case I went to the old trusty JE Pistons Catalog. Part number 101256 has a compression height of 1.645 and a dome of 2cc. Not a lot but will still yeild 9.1:1 compression. Not sure what compression your after but you can always modify this later. Then look at the connecting rods available for the BBC. Speed O Motive has a rod that is 6.635" long. and with your 3.76" stroke your good to go. Now like I said the deck height is totally up to you now. As I have it in the spread sheet above the pistons will exit the block by .009". This is not really a bad thing but you could aviod it by not cutting the block a full .030". Cometic Gaskets sells gaskets in various thicknesses and with the setup I described you'll need there 4.32" bore .045" thick head gasket. This will give you a quench height of .036.
With the long rods you can spin this thing high daily and will have the longevity of a honda.
Now like I said if your not happy with the compression number JE has several other dome pistons with bigger domes, but you need to watch the dome sizes, if you don't get bigger combustion chambers the domes may not clear. I had to clearance my heads for the 37cc dome in my engine. You should be able to run 11.5 to 12:1 compression ratios with a cam intake open of 68 to 72 degrees and still run 93 octane. My motor is 11.75:1 with the cam intake opening at 68 deg. Look for heads with a 114 to 118cc combustion chamber and you can jump up to the bigger dome pistons in the catalog.
Good luck, if you have any questions about the spreadsheet or about the combo I threw together for you email me at egrelle@et-motorsports.cc I'll be glad to help you out.76 Vette - 438 BBC
