A square bore carb/manifold ( not quad jet) of 800+ cfm will let you do more on primaries before secondaries open and will save a lot of gas--------
The quadrajet on mine is a non adjustable version which I had never seen before. It's a gas dumping machine. A bottle with a hole in it could do the same job.

Q jets had small primaries-good on a 302, but a 454 needs lots more air-I had a 850 dp on mine with the linkage where ran on mostly primaries but opened sec at last minute. I had primaries set for econ cruise( well 70+ mph and chapperal gooseneck trailer) I got 8-9 mpgallon and buddy with dually(410gear also) smaller trailer but stock Q jet got 6mpgallon.
