I had to read your post a couple of times to envision what you were seeing, but I think what Pat said is what you have going on. If you look down on any V8 or V6 engine you will see the two banks are staggered, one is further ahead of the other. Like Pat said, that is so the connecting rods can run on the same journal, one in back of the other.
