    head question

Hello, I am in the process of building a bbc and my head on the even cylinder side has about 1/4"to 3/8" gap from the front of the head to front of the engine. The odd side head sits pretty much flush. This is my first BBC build and they are procomp ovals. My question is-is this normal? And if this is normal, WHY?!?! If needed, I can post pics,. thanks in advance.
