468 camshaft selection

Well, the motor started the eat a couple lobes. I called Lunati and they have been more than helpful. They are going to apply the cost of the original cam to a retro-roller cam. Need some input for a camshaft. I am looking at a voodoo 60211. Anybody used one? How was the responsiveness/power off idle-1400? I know it will make good power at 1800+, but I wanna make sure it will still be street friendly. It is going in a 5200lbs Jeep Scrambler w/ 781 heads, RPM air-gap, backwards 850CFM QJ, 9.8:1 static compression.

Specs 60211:
# Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 272/280
# Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 221/229
# Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .575/.575
# LSA/ICL: 112/106
# Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd
# RPM Range: 1800-5500

i used cams this size not the voodo the cam should work ok .i do not put flat lifters cams in big blocks any more .every thing i do is hyd roller or sold roller .make sure your pistons are not full of iron from the cam going away .you may want to pick the iron out of the pistons skirts or the iron will cut the walls all to hell . wash all the parts and recam it

Well, lucky for me I caught it before it actually ate the cam. The lifter bottoms on the damaged lobes were just barely showing a funny wear pattern, and the lobes showed a wear pattern almost all the way across the tip of the lobe instead of the normal sorta half-way across pattern. Glad I tore the intake back off after cam "break"-in to check for wear. lol. Otherwise this would have cost me lots. So far I see no visible signs of damage elsewhere. Probably helps that I have no oil filter bypass and I caught it early.

i have used much bigger cams and still street friendy but a 5200lbs jeep ? it would be ok .i am thinking your going to run in low lock? if so i may move up to a bigger cam . 229/237 563/586 110

Yea, it is a heavy pig. I will be running in 4lo when I am wheelin, but I do run it on the street from time to time. runs 4.56's right now, but i am getting it regeared to 5.89's towards the end of the year.

how about a sold roller cam ? your going to rpm very fast and over 3500 rpm very EZ ??? i have some very nice stuff that may work good for you

How bad are solids to set up versus hydraulic. And at what price? I am all outa money on this build now, lol. I have never used anything other than hydraulic flat tappets to tell you the truth. Another question, why is the powerband so short on the 60211? nature of the beast? I got lucky on my springs, Lunati told me I can use the entry level springs that I got with the 60202 with the 60211. They also told me I MIGHT be able to reuse the pushrods I have, but I will not know for sure till I get em in.

well your push rods will not work with a hyd roller lifter must of been talking to a guy that was pushing a broom ? your push rods may work only with a solid roller as they have no valveing in them and body s are sometimes shorter .the cam will be short has it has a small dur cam . as for hyd roller lifters your looking at $290 and up the solid is not hard to set up you can pm if you want i will give you my phone number and tell you what i have and what you need to know for hyd roller or solid roller cam

I've always been a fan of Comp Cams Extreme 4x4 cams for my 4x4 rigs but this one seems to look good through specs at least. This is the one i'll be running in my 468

Like Pat said Roller is the way to go.
You have a broad range power band that rev's up alot quicker.
The rollers just spank the crap out of a flat tapet cam.
So don't even waste your money, you won't be dissapointed
with a good roller cam. Listen to Pat He know's what works.

Yep but when you have unlimited money anything can happenen! You don't think i didn't want to go Roller? i'd love to run a roller, but when ya have a budget you have to look @ other options. When ya go from $210 for cam and lifters to $727 for roller that quit a bit of change. My next mud truck engine will be a hyd roller.

you do not know me :D i could sell you cam solid roller and lifters for 1/2 your 727 yep your going to spend abit more money with hyd roller cams then a solid roller but there so much fun pulling down a fresh engine from wiping a cam sitting for hours picking cam iron out of the piston skirts re hone hoping you can get all the marks out of the bores .so if you can not spend the 400to 500 more get ready if the shit hit s the fan
