i've run 2x4s on the street for a long time.i recomend carter/edelbrock cars over holleys for the street.on my 428 ford i run the carbs backwards they just seem to work better that way.but on the buick(425 super wildcat nailhead installed in a 56 chevy w/4-speed)i ran them the way they came from the factory.facing toward the front of the car.on the street the carters are better and also you set them once and forget them.to show you how long its been when the edelbrocks came out i had retire from the auto business have never touched one.but i have heard both good and bad about them, one day i'll buy one but i have a stack of afbs in the shead.
