455 buick big block, is it worth it?

so i currently have a 355 sbc in my volvo hotrod im building, but ive found a matching 455/TH400 together for 500. i was just wondering, is there any potential with this engine for a good solid racing engine? i was looking to push 500 hp all motor, and as i said it has the transmission bolted to it. is it possible to get these numbers out of that engine, or should i keep looking? i was looking for something to rebuild on the side for a potential drag engine/trans. just wondering.

:just incase, i just noticed a pontiac big block thread, so if a mod could, maybe move this to a proper space?:

the oil pump /front cover was hard to find but you can get new ones now .dur-bond makes cam bearings that help the cam from drying out and burning them out they can not take much valve spring psi in stock form. T A only sellls them you can not buy them from dur-bond . you could make some your self if you have a lathe or you can ditch in the block so you can clock the oiling hole at 4:00 helps ramp oil under the cam so it will not shut off the oil feeders to cam

Oh yeah, they make great power, but are also a pretty penny to build. The Wizard has lots of info; he should be posting here any minute; saying "Buick" and "455" will bring him out for sure.
