    427 build questions

    Hello,

This is my first post here, so i would like to say hello. I am 22 and i am now just barely being able to fund my project car. my dad and i are in the process of building a 1952 willys aero with a 394 olds with three deuces, 5 speed Tremec, 4.11 gears, etc. It should be completed around May. which means i am going to start my car. its a 1956 Ladawri kit body in which i am building a chassis. Gonna run a straight axle gasser setup. pic at the bottom of the car i am basing my project off.

i am taking an engine blueprinting class locally so i will be able to get all the machine work done for my next project. I got a 427T motor for nothing with a good crank and in overall descent shape. Keep in mind i am on a college budget so i can't get to wild on price. going to go stock crank and bore .030 over. Was looking at the Sealed power rebuild kits in summit, pretty reasonable in price and looks like quality stuff what you think? Anyone run speed pro pistons?

i am going to probably run Eagle H beam rods, worth it for the L-19 bolt upgrade? motor will be turning over 7000 rpm?

One of my biggest questions is about heads, i have a set of bare iron ZLX heads, would have to buy valves spring etc for these. would i be better of selling these and buying used aluminums? also i have been cruising ebay and have come across Pro comp heads for about a grand, anyone have any luck with these? needs to be a pump gas motor so i know with aluminums you can run 11.1 comp give or take?

as far as valvetrain goes this is where i am going to see my expense go up. the car will see a mix of street and strip, but i want to make at LEAST 600hp. i am building a 427 cause i like motors that rev. do you think a comp cams solid roller at 714/.680 lift 278/282 duration at .050 will be streetable at all? i can handle a shitty idle, i am not real scared. what kind of springs pressure would i be looking at for this kinda lift 220# at the seat or so? what lifters seem to hold up best without going too nuts on price?

sorry for the long post but i just need some opinions. i befriended an engine builder with a dyno so i will be able to get the Kinsler injection (mechanical converted to electronic) tuned in for free. any suggestions would be great, the car will be a stick with 4.56 gears.

well you can get big engine to rev. i have many from 468 to632 my 632 will rap up to 8000 no big deal . as for the rods why wast your money on L-19??? bolts .the 2000 are ok.i have used them many times as well as ARP 8740bolts well before the bolt will fail the fork end of the rod will move and do .as for 7000 rpm that not hard if you run the right clearance on rods mains .and piston pins . as for speed pros if your going past 7000 i would use a SRP/JE.ROSS.MAHLEY.CP or a KB forged piston is nice for the money and very lite. speed pros could work but are abit heavy and with the cam your looking at you going to fly cut them .for your CID just 030 over on the truck block is not much i would bore it to 060 and a 454 crank that way you could get some CID as well .if not the 454.4000 storke then check walls and bore it to 100 over alot of the truck blocks are thick. as for the cam size for the i built and used cam that size on the street . i have a 276.6/287.5 @050 741/745lc112 and have used some a round 680/680 270/280 lc110 and smaller. for valve springs i use PSI in many builds as well as the isky #9685 240@2000 open 685. i do get very nice soild roller cams and PSI spring as well as the crower hippo roller lifters . so this stuff will work on the street. i have done it for over 20 years .but do not think your going to put big miles on this stuff with out looking at it from time to time .as for the cheap pro comp heads .or patriot heads they will take some work to make them nice and the pro comps need a very big head gasket to get the chamber to seal up over 4.530 i have been told from more then one guy. thats work with them so a felpro head gasket 1017-1 may seal it .on the last build i came very close to using them but doing lot of looking in to it. i past and use a set of darts by the time i spent hours= money to make them work the darts were a bolt on with not much tune up work and flow good numbers
