    Carb, Spacer and Scoop/Intake choices

Hey all, on the latest project just going to get it running and see how it does. It is a Chevy 427 supposed to be 450-500hp. Intake is an edelbrock performer 2161. It came with an edelbrock 750 on it, but......

Okay, two things going on, one my uncle doesn't like the edelbrock carb, thinks it's too small. We are going to likely go to the Holley 770 street avenger like we have on the other hotrod. I spoke to Holley and based on weight of vehicle, etc. etc (answered all their questions best I could) they recommended that carb.

second thing going on, no clearance for an air cleaner. gonna have to cut the hood. So I thought rather than put a scoop on the hood, get a scoop intake for the carb and let it stick up.

I'm planning a carb spacer, the carb, and then a scoop. I like the double barrel summit has, but the hilborn style looks good too.

Anybody have any input on this? bad idea? good idea? I did a carb spacer on the other engine because heard you get a bit more power and move your power band 100-200rpm up. I thought about a high rise manifold and then the carb, but they only make them for this engine with dual carb setups and my uncle doens't want to deal with two carbs.

How thick a carb spacer? with the edelbrock carb on there I have a little over an inch of space between the center of carb and bottom of hood. If it wouldn't hurt the performance I'd like to get the scoop high enough the whole thing is above the hood, so am thinking a 2" spacer.

    Thanks guys.
    here's the two scoop styles

The carb spacer is going to probably hurt your performance. It is more of a racing upgrade to raise rpm performance, and it kills some of your bottom end.

Live everyday like it were your last, someday it will be.
