454 build up
I was in the hunt for a 454 and found one that a friend has that he never used in his project car, he said it has a spun bearing. i am planning on building this motor for a goal of 500 horse, what is needed to do this and is it worth buying this motor, he said he has a pair of 396 heads lying around that he will toss in with it.
Thanks

when i started to plan for my bbc build, i grabbed a book on Chevy Rat Motors from the parts store. I've learned alot from reading that book. 500hp is easy to achieve with a big block.

Was it a rod or a main bearing??? Neither is that big of a deal, of course it will require a regrind on the crank journals, and if it was a main that spun, an align bore and hone would be in order too!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
