    Tall deck 427

I don't know why I posted instead of just ask Pat....LOL
Is a tall deck 427 worth getting, I found one I can buy $450.00 complete with spun bearing on the crank.
    Thanks

if it a spun main you may not want to buy it. things can be done with the tall deck it is not a must have engine less you are going to build a low buck stroker . if you could get it alot cheaper like free then grab it

Thank's Pat, The guy selling it didn't say if it was rod or main just that it had spun a bearing. It had come out of an 2 1/2 ton truck with 120,000 miles.

Since its a truck it would be a steel crank---if its a rod bearing that isn't too bad a regrind would fix it--if its a main, same deal on the crank grind but if a main that truly spun, it would need to at least be align honed, maybe even a new cap.

If building a hiper steet engine it will need +400 rods for the tall deck and either spacer plates for manifold and sliding collar distributor or special manifold----

Many truck blocks have been bored +125 with no problems---481 cubes with 454 4 inch crank and more with econ strokers

yes you can build them and bore them 4.375.i built one out to 526 but just make sure you have the room for the added 400 deck thing s like headers may not work. yes the crank can be ground and line bored and a new cap if needed been there done that many times and they are steel CRANKS But Big Deal at the end of the day it is just a 427 that may not fit to good less your in to building headers. i have played that game to. at one time i was a sorry SOB that tried to make a living building them . you ask if 450 was a deal less you can pull the pan and see how bad it is hurt it not that hot of a deal SOMEONE MAY THINK IT A HOT DEAL I DO NOT

I don't think its a deal either without looking inside--yes headers are an issue and a difinant problem if your putting it in a street car like a camaro--engine is not only taller bur wider and 427 parts aren't shelf items like the 4 and 4 1/4 stroke stuff is---I'd opt for a Dart 4.600 bore without the issues of cleaning, inspecting, machining ( and I can do it in house)

i have been there and done it yes you do go up and out and if you go after market heads your going up 3/4 more on the ports. for the cleaning and checking i can do all that fun stuff as well but by the end of the day a 9.800 big M block will get you to 582 with out much work
