    366

I have found a 366 out of a school bus. I don't know much about big blocks to know which blocks are all the same and what not. What can you make out of this? Is this the same block as the 454? Any information would be great.

It's a tall deck block so standard big block parts like the intake wont bolt up, but they do make aftermarket intakes for these. There are some tall deck 454s out there, too. Most people dont build the 366 because they're an odd ball engine mainly for large truck use. But if it runs decent and it's cheap, what the hell. It had to make decent power to pull a school bus around. Paint it orange and slap an aluminum intake, a holly, some headers, and some chrome on it. Presto, you got a budget big block.

the 366 is not the hot engine but could work for some thing to make a truck or car to move but they just do not just drop in a car your 366 deck is a 10.200 that is the same as the 427 tall deck that can be pump up to 525 cid with some work they as far as i know never made a 454 tall deck . a 454 car engine is a 9.800 deck all 396 to 454 and the 502 were all 9.800all can be stroke and have done all of them with a 454 block you can get out to 512cid with a stock GM block and the 502 can be made past 550 cid the 366 has the same size crank as a 396to427 3.760 crank but the bore is very small on the 366 and can not be bore to 4.250 that with a 4.000 crank is what you would need to get to 454 and a longer rod to a 400 longer rod so the 9.800 454pistons would get to the top of the 10.200 deck a 427 tall deck block this can be done to it has the 4.250 bore and more cid with a bigger crank and bore . you could do some thing with the 366 with custom pistons that would be very pricey you could buy a alum intake that will fit the 10.200 366 block or buy deck spacers and i have used both and both work your damper and all front brackets are not the same as car so you will have to work thru all that stuff as well as the water pump .to put a tall deck in a car can be work i have done it for much bigger CID but it would not really worth the work for the 366 a 396 or a 454 would be less of a headache and in the long run be cheaper way to go
