If a person was going to bore out a 454 IV .060 to make a 496 which make of forged internals would be BEST without breaking the bank...Eagle, Scat, Pro-comp? What are Probe forged pistons like quality wise? If you were going to run an aluminum head which size would be best on this 496 and what is a middle of the line aluminum head for this application? I would love to run AFR 315 cnc heads but they are spendy. Thanks in advance. Would a Weiand stealth intake be okay for this set up?

The kind of intake you should run depends on Cam shaft, carb, and head.
Not enough Info to tell, thanks Kurt

I have a brand new 850 Holley professionally built which I was thinking of running. I'm wanting the 496 to be a street engine with as much torque and HP as possible and probably will run a hyd roller cam (size unknown now). As far as heads I was questioning about the best bang for the buck aluminum head wise. The tranny will be a professionally built th400 with the appropriate stall converter, the rearend is a 9" Ford 31 spline 389 gears, and 29" Hoosier Pro Street radials.

Isky cams make a good broad power cam.
not sure how well your bottom end is.
Your intake is good from idle to 6,000 rpm's
Most of your torque is gonna be in the lower rpms.
Keep your rmp range under 6,000 to match your intake
and make all kinds of torque.
Ask Techinspector for his advice he know his stuff. Kurt

Thanks Pat, I currently have a new hyd roller with complete valve train that has less than 300 miles on it. It is a 232/236 @.050 with 626/626 lift but it is on a 110 LSA. I'm not certain how much different your Crane cam would be than mine since yours is a 112? What size are your Canfield heads, any port work and what rpm range would they work at? Price wise you could PM me if you decide to sell them. How would your Canfield heads compare to AFR 315 CNC heads which are supposed to be AFR's "torque monster" heads and still flow good on the upper end? Thanks...my new LS6 is not performing as well as I'd hoped so I'm seriously thinking of pulling it and going with a 496. Originally Posted by pat mccarthy Originally Posted by pat mccarthy
