Thumbs up What oil and filter for BBC?

My LS6 454 is just about broken in and it is time to change the oil and filter. What would you say is the BEST oil to run and who makes the BEST filter to use? I was considering running Royal Purple for oil, but I'm at a loss as to what is the BEST possible filter to run? My BBC is brand new which I personally bought back in 1971, but never used. It has had never been started before and I just had it professionally rebuilt, changed to a big hyd. roller cam, and had it run in/tuned on a dyno. I just want to do this oil change and filter the right way. Thanks!

Mobil 1 synthetic oil and filter in all my cars. My '93 Vette is as clean inside the valve covers as the day it was bought. I used to use K&N, but it wasn't worth an extra $7.00 for the nut on the bottom, and I don't think AMSOIL is worth 2-3x the price of Mobil 1.

BTW, you will get at least 20 different responses on this.

I use Mobil 1 oil, and wix filters, their filter media looks better than fram or purolator.

Mobil 1 synthetic oil and filter in all my cars as henry says, is a good choice for a street rod driven motor. The royal purple is some dang good oil but it caters more for a race car then a street rod. Its just wasted money if you are not going to race the car, but if you are then go that route.

I like Mobil 1 too, have it in my daily driver, and also am running Shell Rotella T in my T engine. As for filters, I have seen post after post on various forums about how bad Fram filters are these days. Some people have shown cut up Fram filters where the insides have collapsed and one guy said it plugged up his race engine passages to the point that it fried the engine. I like Purolator and Wix, and run Volvo marine oil filters on my T, since the engine came out of a boat it just seemed natural to do that. I also hear good things about NAPA filters.

Same for me, still a good combination after the break-in is over..... Royal Purple came out with a break-in oil, too... Anyone tried it yet????

street driven drag car I use brad penn grade 1 race oil synthetic blend and K&N filter... used to use Fram HP4 (high pressure, high performance) filter without any issues but I like the nut on the bottom of the K&N and the filter media is finer. That said, with my milder BBC I ran Castrol GTX for years without any trouble... as with anything, I guess it depends what you want to do with it.
