I love the W motors, both the 348 and 409. They just look so cool in a car, and dress up so pretty, especially with multiple carbs.
If it turns free I would grab it. I think the 409 is somehow different to get those additional cubes, so I don't know either if you can make one out of a 348.

From what I've read, you'll hit water before you get there. The 348 and 409 blocks were different castings.

Had a 54 Chevy truck project once (1990)...Had a 348 with a sheetmetal tunnelram to go in it. Prostreet w/700R-4 behind it was the plan. Never got much more than the frame ready to accept the motor/trans combo and the rear half mocked before getting laid-off at work and selling the whole thing CHEAP!!!
Probably still have my original drawings for all of it somewhere around here...

I was told years ago that you can't. But that was then and now is today, so maybe.41willys wrote: I don't think it's possible to take the 348 bore of 4.125 out to the 4.312 of the 409
A 348, while not a hi performance engine, still makes a damn nice motor for any hotrod, especially with 3 deuces. If the engine was sound and priced right, I'd go for it

Thanks guys! It's been a long road. Fun doing finishing work for sure. Getting the dash ready for paint and some interior trim. Have to do some finish work on the aluminum headliner before...
