What's it take to go from flat to roller cam

Besides money, is there any machining work required to change from flat tappet to hydraulic roller cam in my Mark IV 454 marine engine? I know about using retro lifters that are pricey, but as far as the cam fitting in, is there anything special involved?

    Thanks.

you need the comp push rods#7815-16 and if iron cam core or the new steel /iron gear core just a iron distributor gear with gm steel core cam iron gear GM #10456413 and on any other steel core i run bronze and you need to stop end play so you will need thrust button and if you run a steel core cam you will need a bronze tip fuel pump rod

thanks, Pat. My 454 doesn't even have a mechanical pump, just an electric one.

doesn't sound too hard to convert, and I'll probably do this as well since the motor will be out.

if thats the case you can go with a mark 6 cam comp sell.s take out.s for 40. and then you just buy a mark 6 timing set and the GM cam plate .your block is tap out for it . just in back on the top timming gear if you use this plate then you do not need the button to keep the cam moving then you just buy the retro lifters and push rods the mark 6 stuff will not work just the cam and timming set have done many and you save not putting down 200+ on a cam
