difference in tall deck and short deck

    Hi,
I was looking at getting another engine block and I was wondering what the differance's are in a short deck and tall deck. I alawys here about Pat on here talking about tall deck. Is there more power to be able to be made with a tall deck? Are there any big disadvantages to having a short deck?

    thanx
    david

tall deck what? 10.200 427to496 no i would not think you would not see much more power from this build.A 10.200 block 589/632 yes.a short deck max.s cid about 582 and 9.800 the max.s is 638 and abit more on a10.200 block,it will be more work to get it to fit in a car . the tall deck 427 can be made in to a 540 or so but may be off set by having to make headers to fit the tall deck so less you can get a 427 tall deck cheap it may be better buying a short deck block dart etc at make a555/582. past 540 tall deck your will need a world.. dart .bow tie. etc block. look at my post on this there is many. what will make more power ? the tall deck works much better if you go past 4-3/8 crank in the block so you can add longer rods help when you start swining a 4-1/2--4-3/4 crank some hi rpm blower guys run the tall deck with long rod and short stroke. a 9.800 blocks can go to 582 easy and you may find headers to fit. if this is no big deal to you and you want max CID go to a598 or632 tall deck look on e-bay soon I will be selling some10.200 gm bow-tie steel cap blocks studed mains o ring decks blocks
