    newbie questions

Looking for some help with my first build up of a BBC
just some questions about the parts I have selected
ok here it is for all to laugh

started with an 89 mark IV block 4 bolt main
    stock crank, rods, and pistons
    3904390 closed chamber heads
    been decked to 95 cc
supposedly brings it to 10.25 cr
pocket ported and enlarged to 2.19 /1.88 valves manley ss
    pete jackson gear drive
jones solid roller 708/710 lift 250/256 dur @.050
    1 3/4 headers w/ flowmaster 40s
    edelbrock performer rpm slightly opened
and a holley 750 double pump
msd billet dist and 6AL box

I think the ratins should be around 560 hp @6000 and 540 tq at 4500
if this is wrong or anyone sees any probs in my future please let me know before I fire this thing off thanks Jim

Welcome! Why would anyone laugh at this combo?? I think it sounds pretty good for a newbie BBC guy... When you say stock pistons, are they flat tops, or a small dish in the center?? If so, I doubt that your c/r will be over 10/1, even with the small chamber heads. It's really hard to hit 10/1 on a big block with flat tops. You might be there, I cant say for sure of course, but I doubt it..have you cc'd the heads to see where they are? They are supposed to be 98cc, but you have had larger valves installed, and that frequently makes them larger in size. Did they tell you what your deck hgt is in thousanths?? I like those closed chamber heads. Carb and intake sound good. Cam is pretty radical, but streetable, that's about where I am with mine, but I have more cubes (505), so yours will be nastier for sure. What's the LSA?? Lift sounds high for that duration. Have you checked piston/valve clearance? Headers will be good. I would get rid of the Pete Jackson, but that's just me....mine went after a few months, they were cool for a very short time! I think it should run pretty good, overall. What's the primary purpose? Street? What kind of car is it going in, and what tranny and gears will you use? John

they are flat tops and after the valves were recut they were decked and they cc'd at 94.7 I believe the cam is a 106 cl and 112 sep

its gping a 53 chevy 5 window pick up with a th400 f##d 9" with 4.56 gears and mickey thompson 31x18.5x15 tires out back

I do have 4.25 stroke crank thats going in next year when I get the money up for my .100 JE pistons then I'll have a 505 too lol

Sounds great! (except maybe the 4:56 gears!!) Well, you do have big tires anyway. Yeah, next year will be pretty much the same combo as I run...I also have a 4 bolt block, JE pistons, etc. My cam is 255/259 @ .050, 110 lsa, 104 icl, solid roller also. Well, enjoy it, and run it hard! John

I haven't in years I just got back in to hot rodding it started out building a motor for my daily driver but in mass anything with a gas motor after 85 has to pass emissions so I was looking for a early 80s chevy pick up and found my 53 on e-bay and got it for great price so as they say the rest is history

Yep, history is expensive sometimes too! Well, if you're up and running by next summer, maybe I'll see you at Worcester. Good luck, John
