    396 cylinder wall thickness

how far can a 396 block be bore out? i'm thinking boring my 396 out to 427 cubes. the bore is already 4.155 and 427-454 bore 4.250. my block has a lot of meat on the cylinder wall. and i'm just about positive it can be done with out problems. does anyone in here have experiences similar to what i'm thinking of doing?

Not sure what the prices are for blocks around there, but I think I would just look for a 454 block, instead of taking your block down that far...if you can even do it. I picked up two 454 blocks over the last couple years for around 100 bucks. You'll spend all of that just boring it I'll bet. John

Instead of taking the walls down that much find a crank and have a stroker motor of 427. I think I've seen it done before with a 396.
Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!
