    On the cheap.

Hi guys. I have been doing some checking around to find some parts at a resonable price to build my tall deck.(525) I am having a hard time finding everything and keeping it below $5,000. I know that Is not a lot of money for a good build up but it is looking like that will be the limit. Even with the cheapest parts I could find though perfomance companys,Jegs,Summit,Doug Herbert, and Ohio Crank I cant get it below $5,500 and I dont know what machine work will cost yet. Is the 525 possible on $5,000 or will I need more cash.

Big blocks cost considerably more than a small block. Jegs does gaurentee lowest prices, so whatever you get from them company's, is the cheapest it's gonna be.

If I go with a steel bottom end rather than a forged to save money will the steel hold up to 600 horse or so. I would like to have at least 550 but I want 600 or more.

Ok I think I can do it if I get my crank and rods from Ohio Crank. Why are they so cheap. The 4340 4.50 inch crank is only $625, and the 4340 I beam rods are $200. I dont want junk so if anybody has heard of this or used this company let me know how they are. Also are these heads about the right size. Merlin lll rec.310cc.

Jegs may not have the best deals, but they gaurentee it, so you could prove to them there not the cheapest on any product that they sell and another company has cheaper, and they have to at least match the price, might be a hassle, but they might also drop the price below the other company's price, so they get the order. Summit has way better prices on most stuff, but sombody with a lot of time could get stuff a little cheaper by doing stuff like that.

You can do the same thing at Wal Mart, if you find somthing cheaper.

Im with Pat on this one. Jegs typically in their catalogs are more expensive #1.
Far as Summit and Jegs both go Im talking on the phone with techs that really dont care about anything other than selling you the part as fast as possible.

Now Competition products on the other hands IMO has more people who not just work in the performance industry but most of them indulge in the hobby as well. They are a smaller company, they take time to talk with you on the phone to help you get the correct product. When I was looking at Canfield heads the guy discussing heads spent at least 20 minutes on the phone giving me an education. Far as prices go, for the most part I think they beat Summit and jegs on most things.

So unlike Pat who is looking for volume discount...from a guy who just builds a motor every couple of years Competition products I believe is best
