    Lightbulb 454 questions

I am redoing a 22' jet boat with a chevy 454. I am in the engine now and I noticed there are 5 extra drilled holes in the oil pump sucksion screen. what would be the purpose of that? mabey more oil flow or pressure? I know alot but i also have alot to learn. I want this engine to run good. Real gud! I want to lean the secrets of putting horsepower in a big block. I just joind this site and look forward to making friends and helping others.

the only thing i can think of was some was thinking that they wanted more oil maybe ?? when the boat was on plane so they add more holes so when at plane it would not dry out ?? but a good oil pan with trap doors and a good pick up will help a lot . i would not do this it may be a very bad idlea . this could make the pump suck air . if you put them were they would not do any good
