    '94 454 Suburban Cam-Recommendations?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a cam upgrade for my stock 94 454? I understand that the motor has a very low c/r. I would at least like to squeeze a bit more performance out of it for the abysmal gas mileage I get.

Currently I am running a piggyback street legal chip, a Banks Powerpack exhaust mani and exhaust system w/ timing at 6 bfdc. (stock is 2 deg)

As is, the Burb runs a lot stronger up thru the midrange than it did in stock form, but playing with the cam hopefully will gain some signifigant improvement. I do not want get into tearing the motor out.

A call to your favorite cam grinder will get you the correct cam. It will most likely be the first one listed in their catalog.

A cam grinder said that my '94 454 Suburbam could either be a flat tappet hydraulic cam or a roller cam. They need to know which one before they can perscribe a solution. I find it hard to believe that GM would have been that capricious in the middle of a model year of a common vehicle.

They said I needed to pull a pushrod to know which one it was. Any opinions here?

get your vin number on your vehicle and call the chevy parts dept. they can tell you what cam is in that motor off of that, insted of you having to disasimble a push rod. there is a number on your cam but you have to pull it.Just for some more info if you dont want to pull the motor to change the cam you will have to take off the front of your grill to make it happen easier.
