the 454 can not swing a 41/2 crank in a short deck?some said they did it but i would not .all the stuff i work on is 4.600 on the bores to 4.500 and 4.310 so here are some things to think about if this gets past paper . valves may not work with the very small bore or the tops of the deck may need to be eyebrowd for the bigger valves not to big of a deal . the crank will need some room you may have good luck with a I beam rod 400 longer and try not to cut out much of the block. i run a rod thru the top of the block and mark it when it hits bottom this tells me how thick the block is at the bottom i take the rod out and use it to mark the bottom of the pistons wall .so you know were to stop or hit water the milodon pan 30950 will work for the 4 1/2 stroke crank with steel rods .you will need a set of custom pistons for this $$ but this can all be done and i would run a roller cam in it.Last edited by pat mccarthy; 11-20-2005 at 10:11 AM.
