ZZ 502 Ramjet programming
Just swapped a 502 Ramjet into my 4wd Safari. Engine runs well, but the tailpipes indicate fatter than necessary fuel mixture. Anyone know if there's a trick where you can decieve the o2 sensor into thinking that the engine's running mebbe 10-15% richer than it actually is? I remember reading somewhere that the 502 Ramjet was tuned on the fat side, I just find it ridiculously rich. Even the oil is black after 300 miles...

Call Arizona Speed and Marine in Chandler, Arizona and ask them. They can program MEFI controllers.....

Thank you so much. I'm a regular on Astrosafari.com, and I was starting to wonder if the lack of response here was due to an allergy to newbies....
I've swapped in a 195* stat in place of the OEM 180*, and relocated my electric fan sensor so as to be located in the actual coolant stream of the upper rad hose. Temps are stable, but I still find that she runs rich. I get around 8-10 mpg city, and 15mpg highway. Not too bad for a 502 pushing a 4900 lbs vehicle with the areodynamics of a brick, but I still think I should be getting better with an average of 15% throttle opening....

Did you call them? Your mileage is about normal but running rich and getting the oil black so quick is not.
I figure that our 350 with injection and a MEFI gets 5mpg on
106 unleaded.

Well...(he said embarrassingly), I'm having trouble finding their website. I've tried every kind of domain name I can think of, but....
EDIT: Found the site, thanxLast edited by Peter Smurf; 09-24-2005 at 05:22 AM.

Yeah, been about a month and a half, but I still get a rush when I floor it on the highway. She's running 3.42's with 31" tires, so launches aren't as specatular as one would think (though definitely awesome as compared to a 4.3. Remember, we're talking about a 4,900 lbs truck here.
Got an estimate of $350 to reprogram the ecm from Arizona Speed & Marine. I sent 'em an email asking how much they'd charge me for a brand new ecm, reprogrammed by them. Waiting for an answer ...97' AWD c/w 5" lift

Alot of my buddies on AstroSafari.com run small blocks. They love 'em. My preoccupation is always with reliability. I absolutely abhor tearing into stuff over'n over again.....
Why don't you just slap on headers and nitrous and call it a day?97' AWD c/w 5" lift

Peter, what did AZ Speed & Marine tell you they would do in the reprogramming? You could also try smaller injectors which would flow less for a given pulse width.... but then, would the computer try to adjust the injector pulse width to compensate???
I can say one thing, the AZ Speed & Marine guys seem to know what they are doing.

I would like to go wild with this and keep the injection...I thought about using a TPI setup....Now the only delema I have is which full length header will fit....Atleast so I can install 2.5 dual... or I may try to fit 3in duals.....course the noise ordinance won't like me none....
Nitrous....sure.....300hp shot outta do it...

Robot; They didn't really tell me. Sorta more along the lines of "send us $350USD and your ecm and we'll do something with it." You say they seem to know what they're doing. Is that from experience, or what you've heard? I don't hardly trust anyone anymore.

I just realized something (duh). I don't have an H pipe on my duals. I'm running modded OEM stainless manifolds which have had the restrictive AIR bungs removed, but I don't have an H pipe. I had assumed that the exhaust shop woulda installed one automatically, but they didn't. You don't suppose that this, coupled with manifolds instead of full-length headers as recommended by GM, is the reason for my rich mixture, do ya?97' AWD c/w 5" lift
