Need some pre production feed back...

Attachment 61567Attachment 61566Ive been getting a lot of requests to build seat wings for some of the earlier seat frames that I build. Like everything there is a certain amount of R & D required to get things dialed in enough that it can go into production. For those that have older rods and by older I'm thinking 1936 and older I was wondering if adding seat wings to a modern style seat has any appeal? Pro's or Con's as you can see them in your car? Any feed back large or small would be appreciated. These are just for looks only and have no structural value what so ever. They would be an option at time of order so I'm curious what the perceived value from a customers point of view would be? Another words how much would you expect to pay for this option? I know how much they cost to build I just need to see if there is any room to make a buck or two? Thanks guy... Keep in mind that typically a thin layer of foam would be glued to the sheet metal and upholstered over that.

I'm not into custom seats at all, but considering the price of a bare bench seat frame being in the $600-700 range I would think that a pair of formed metal wings like that could be a $150 to $200 option, but that's a plain old WAG, not a SWAG :HMMM: ;) :LOL::LOL: My logic is maybe you could add ~ 25% of the bare frame price for the wings. Others may disagree with that approach, but I think that's the discussion you're wanting here?

This is always some of the tough stuff for a guy in business. Gotta cover costs, but need to move the merch at a price that the market will bare in sufficient quantity to make sense. I'm inclined toward the same range as Roger figuring that an upholsterer would have a couple hours or so in fabbing similar pieces of alternative material. The originals, as you probably already know, where plywood, so this is more durable, but probably significantly more expensive material wise.

Thanks for your thoughts and input. Skill sawing them out of plywood would be a lot easier and better labor wise but cost and shipping wise Im not sure that WOOD be the way to go. :D I'm thinking I will try to supply the wings for the same price or slightly under what as the competitions price is for their standard frames. Right now their retail price is $680.00 and I have been offering my product well under that price. I can only do that because I am keeping my overhead to a minimum. We are lean mean seat making machine except for fat Bob. ;)

Thanks again guys for the input. Ive started cranking them out. I advertise on the other forum and I'm getting all kinds of inquires on them and some orders already so I think it will be a winner. I got an order for a 34 ford so I had to change up the sides a bit for the 33 /34's.

Well thank you sir. That is the release handel for the seat back. It adjusts to that perfect ride position or flips forward so you can get to stuff behind the seat. This is a poor quality pic but you can see what is going on.
