Inside Door Handles

So I have stock style exterior door handles as pictured, and I bought stock style inside handles from Speedway, also as pictured. Note the attachment on the inside handles is a simple screw into the shaft. However, the shaft on the outside handles is solid, not drilled & tapped. They also may be a bit long, once the door panels are in place. Is this common, and I just need to drill & tap the exterior handle shaft, or is there a better way to attack the inside handles?

How are the shafts secured to the exterior handles? Are they removable? Is there a set screw perpendicular to the shaft going thru that handle, if so couldn't you shorten the shaft on that end after determining correct length? Or,
how deep are the threads on the interior end into the shaft? Deep enough to be able to cut the shaft to length then clean the threads with a tap and still use the screw?

The interior end of the shaft is solid, no hole, no threads. I have not pulled the exterior assembly out to see how it is put together. Just wondering what others who have done '29-'34's have solved this, or if my exterior units are strange.

I just did a set on a 32 3 window and we had to install the outside handle. fit the panel and measure the shaft length and cut it. we had roll pins to secure ours but you'll have to tap yours to secure it. I would have rather had the screw in type like you have there
