torque converter?
I'm installing a extreme energy hydraulic flat topped cam 218/224 dur. in my 305 bored to 315. I'm also installing World products SR torquer 305 head which have 58cc combustion chambers with 1.94"/1.50" valves for better midrange torque. I'm running a 3 duece set up with rochester carbs. I have high gears 2:76 with a stock convertor. If I keep these gears will I need to go to a higher converter? I know if I change to 3:55 gears it would improve the performance of the engine, but when I cruise its usually around 70-75 with the rpm's at only 2500 so my mileage is good.
If I do go with lower gears, what torque converter should I use?Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!

chev. im not sure about this ?, but the only reason you would need to change the convertor would be to install a stall converter. that would be to controll your rpms and idle quality at the stop light or when you put it in gear. im talking for st. use. i dont use any more stall than i have to. i dont know about that cam but im sure the factory has a recommendation for the convertor you would need if any . you wouldnt need to change the convertor if you change your dif. gears. hope this is what your askingOriginally posted by chevy 37

Richard and It1s10 Thanks for the advice. I called comp cams and asked if I would need a converter for this cam and I was told no. I mentioned what you said Richard about the cam being a little more agressive in a 305 than a 350 but he felt that the engine wouldn't stall in the 1800 to 2400 range. I seem to have more confidence in your answer richard and if indeed it does stall I will put it on since it's not a major undertaking.
Don't know why I keep sticking with the 305 but it's been good to me and with the new heads and cam I should pick up substantial HP and torque.Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!
