what would be a good transmission
What would be a dood trans and rear for my 72 i'm putting the 283 in it.

TH400 or 700R4.
Both of these are good and you can get all kinds of goodies for em.Any dolt with a Torch and Welder can customize a car.
Real artists use what God bestowed on em.

To answer the original question, I'd slip a TH350 in there. It'll fit like it belongs there. The 700R4 will give you the extra gear though. Here's a dimension chart if you need it.Mike Casella

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
