i recently bought a caddy with no tranmission and was wondering if i could use a transmission from another make if they are both turbo hydramatic. i have the original engine i am rebuilding.any info you have on this would be helpfull

I recently have been having a problem with my transmission.. at first I thought maybe I just need a tranny fluid change even though I had gotten it changed not too long before.. (it's an old car). But I'm not sure. From time to time it will sound like it won't shift out of first gear, and it gets really really loud.. and as I start to slow down I can't feel anything shifting it just slowly gets more quiet.. is this a serious problem? What do you think could be causing it?

OK that sounds like your not getting enough trans fluid and/or not enough fluid pressure going through the valve body. This can be caused by a blocked trans fluid filter which sits at the bottom of the pan. If you had your fluid changed recantly like you said, and if it was done at a trans shop they should of changed the filter as well. Next ones the biggie, low pressure could mean a worn trans fluid pump. To test that get a pressure guage reading of the internal line pressures. If the pressure is low and is traced back to pump the only remedy for that is to pull the tranny from the car so it can be replaced or serviced.

These are probably the most common cause of auto trans problems. Good luck with it. S

64sedandeville too bad you are not close to ohio as there are alot of 60s caddys in a couple of junkyards that I frequent and they could be had reasonably.
