Transmission
I don't know much about transmissions (don't even think I spelled it right) but I was wondering if a C6 AT tranny is any good?
I am thinking about going out to this place and taking a look at this car... http://adcache.collectorcartraderonl...4/71799374.htm
Tell me what you guy's think about this.
Thanks.

That's the reason I put it up because I don't know what it run's 8's in. I think it's a bunch of shit but if I go look at it I am going to tell him I wan't to take it out for a drive and when I go I will take it on a street and do a couple of starts. :D I think it's a bunch of shit, but 3000 is something I can afford. I sure would work on it a lot, I don't wan't a car fixed up that much though but it still can have work done to it and all, also I don't like how the back tires are sticking out pass the body like that I would like them tucked in more. I will just have to check it out, anymore oppinions or anything would be helpful.
Thanks.

FMX
It kinda looks like it needs some body work and paint. I agree with you about the back tires sticking out way too far. The other thing is, if you are going to drive it on the street, that spool in the rear end has to go. (nothing like turning the wheel for a sharp turn on a rain night and the car going straight cause the rear end is constantly locked to really give you a thrill ride HE, HE, )
I think He's got to be talking about an Eighth mile track. No way can that combo be doing the 1/4 in that time.
But for $3000.00 it doesn't look like to bad of a deal. Eyeball it for real and see if it pleases you. :) :)

Thanks, I sure will. I would throw a nice paint job on it.... not sure what, probably just black or something and put different rims on it (got some in mind that I have always wanted even to just sit in my room, lol) and then stick those tires in more definetely. Also cover up that roll bar with carpet, nice kind like grey or something.
-
Oh yeah also on this.... it most likely has a Ford motor right? I wish it had a chebby one. I am not a Ford person but I like Mercurys (not this new) but this cougar is nice and something I can afford. I wish I could find a 30's-50's style car or truck.
Oh yeah also fordman, with the turning, I won't ever drive an old car in rain. Especially here. :p
-
Those old Cougars are cool. The 460 is a big block Ford. Mid 8s must be 1/8 mile times. The big blocks are a tight fit. Check to see if the shock towers have been modified. It looks like it's worth the price but pictures usually look better than reality. Check it out first. Maybe it will change your mind about Ford engines. I think a different set of rims for the street will put the tires back where they belong. Those wide tires are probably for racing. He's selling it as a drag car not a street machine so it may not be street legal.
-
high tens maybe????????? i would spend that just in the engine. and still question a 8 sec. run . has to be talking about 1/8 mile.
-
Yeah I am pretty sure it's 1/8 because near that place there is a track with a 1/8 track my friend told me so that must be it.
If it's not street legal then it's because of the tires most likely. I got a set of those Mickey Thompson Indy Profile Tires and Center Line Convo Pro Series 00 rims in mind for that car. I would like to keep double wides like that on there but not sticking out like that. I talked to the pops about going to look at it and he says he used to know of someone with one of those and they are pretty damn fast and said maybe but he hates the rims, tires and paint on there which would have to be changed. I am sure if it's set up for drag that the inside has no passenger seat and no carpet. I don't mind because I like to keep cars plain, I would probably paint the car black, and have grey interior inside and the grey carpet I would use over the roll bars too. Only Ford kind of car's I like are Mercurys just for the body but oh well I might learn something from these Fords if I got this. I also like 30's-50's cars and trucks like I said but some of these cars like this one I like but it all depends. If there are any teens my age they all like things like chevelles, mustangs, etc and yeah those are nice car's (besides mustangs) but you see those things ALL THE TIME and I like things like coupes, old 37 chevy trucks, and things like that. I also like Buicks and those really old 50's Cadillacs, etc. Well I am sure you get my drift and I am getting off subject but I am bored and wanted to get that out.
One more question, I am looking through Summit and Jegs and can't find nothing for these 460's, Trick Flow makes Valve Covers and that's all I see.... anyone know of where there might be more stuff for this at?
-
I wouldn't buy that car unless, you wanted a drag car, the reason being, the car has a roll cage and, from the picture it dosent look like it has an iterior and just a racing seat but it's hard to tell, the cars power options were probably removed ( steering, radio, A/C if origanally equiped, ) it probably also has a fuel cell added and gas tank removed.
-
The AC removed and all would not bother me a bit. It all depends... I am going to have to write down a list of questions to ask if I remember them all.... Got any questions you think I should ask him? Let me know tonight if you can so I can write them down and give him a call.
Thanks.
-
I would ask him to email some better pictures.
-
The first thing I'd ask him is, is it street legal?, the second, What was removed? A/c wouldn't bother me ither but, the pwr steering and if it lacked an interior would bother me, it might be hard riding long distances in a kirkey drag racing seat. Personally I wouldn't buy it for a street car. Dont look at just the 460 BB and C6, that car was redone to go down the strip, not the street so, it may not handle well on the street. Look for ford Galaxies, I belive they were offered with a 460 and there nice cars too, come across them pretty cheap sometimes to. Even if you found a galaxy but, it diddn't have a 460, a 460 would slide right in with little effort. Buy what you want though.
-
Yeah well see I like car's set up for drag, I like street cars and drag.... I wan't a drag one actually though because I wan't to take it to the strip, start learning more and things like that, I won't be driving it all over the place.
-
How is your project going there matt? Got any pics of it now or anything? Oh yeah about the galaxy, I don't wan't to go with a Ford car, only a Mercury is exceptionable for a Ford and that's it.
-
I know alot of guys that drive thier pro-street cars everyday in the good weather, narrowed-roll cage and all, and they enjoy them. If it's not an everyday driver it will be fun. I would be leary of any cutting they have done if it is a unibody. As far as a big block early cougar goes, it's worth that price alright, even if it needs a little fixing. Provided it isn't all rusted up, just my 2cents.:D
-
My car has most of the bodywork done, it should be on the road in a week or so ( not compleated, just drivable ). Check out " Rust hole in chrome front bumper " for all of the pics I have taken of my car.
-
Yeah brickman, it will not be a everyday driver, I won't have a everyday driver because I am a poor teen with no money but oh well I would rather have a old car and not drive it every day. I hope I am going to be able to go check the thing out either tomarrow or Monday, but from the looks of it I can't look at it until Monday.
-
From the look of this car, I would say to really get it legal and not too conspicious, you would want a dark straight paint, Do something about the roll bar, Exhaust is probably non-existant and make sure it all will idle. Then go through the lights, check for suspension Mods and steering. However, there is some potential there. Even though its a ford.
-
Haha, yeah even though it's a Ford, lol
-
So think it's bad or something then or what?
-
Ok well I am going to call the guy up sometime today when I got time and see about this thing. I got a good list of questions to ask. Also I found another 67 Merc (same one as this) and it's messed up and pretty much can't be fixed up unless you had tons of money (100,000 or more) but it has good parts and it's only for like 700 which is a bit too much for what it is but I thought that if I got this car then I can check that one out for parts, but I first have to see what's going with this car before I get my hopes up any.
-
I just called them up and they said that the shock towers and fire wall has not been cut up at all, the whole dash was taken out and remodified for racing, it's not street legal and mostly because of no title or nothing and the tires. No rust, no motorplates, no seats besides driver. It is basically all for racing her and the guy said so I don't know about this then. I would like a car like this just for racing but also would like to be able to take it on the street sometimes once in a while as well.
Anyways, I am not going to get the thing, I don't wan't a car with no title mostly because my dad was telling me that it doesn't matter if it is for racing only that it should have a title no matter what and also it's too much of a pain in the ass for cars like that and I don't have the money to keep fixing it and all when I raced it. Oh well, just going to keep looking. Hopefully one day I will find me a nice 36 or 37 Chevy truck.:D
-
Uh, I did'nt see the word " title " in his ad, but for your question a c6 built right will stand up to lots of ponies
-
Yeah there is no title man.
-
posting at the same time.............yeah thats what I thought, well keep hunting, maybe you'll find one even better.
-
Yeah, I have been driving around a lot and can't find any old cars around for sale but I will just wait. I will just sit back and wait until I come across one or something because I don't really have the money for one or the money to spend on it because there are other things I need but if I do come across a 37 or something like that then I will definetely jump on it if it's in my price range.
