    No need to guess. Go to this site. It will calculate the gears for you. Steve Holmes knows Chevy overdrive automatics inside out.

    All you need to know is tire diameter - or the P-metric tire size (e.g. P 295/50R15).

    You may need to change both the drive gear and the driven gear. To replace the drive gear, you need to pull the tailshaft.
