Is the 200 4r strong enough?

I have a 1970 Impala, 383 at about 410hp and the same torque. Running a th 350 with 3:55 gears. Im at 3000 rpm at 60 mph. Trying to loose some rpms at highway speed. I thought about gear vendors and a 700 r4 but thought because the 2004r is an exact swap it just makes sense. But is it strong enough? Dose anybody have any input. Thanks in advance, Trainor

i`m wanting to do the same thing with my V6 pinto..it has the turbo 350 and needs the extra gear ..is the 200 4r and overdrive or a lockup convertor type .. i know when i worked in a trans shop we did dozens of the 200 to 350 swaps...but never the other way around

I believe it is an overdrive system.

Several people think so - not least of which is Art Carr. He builds these transmissions for upwards of 750 horse. See 2004R Transmission from CPT, 200-4R Ultimate Performance

i started using 200r4's in 1990 . have not had a problem with one once it is installed and tuned .

Be reasonable with the pedal, your'e probably ok

I know a guy that runs a blown SBC with one.

There was a problem keeping front seals in them and they soved that by drilling more return holes to vent the area by the seal
