Why such a high stall converter? Is the motor running a "big" cam? What is your desired end result? Are you trying to get a little fuel economy? Or just saying screw-it?

Mike & I were typing at the same time, but he uses fewer words.:LOL: To analyze your rear gear choices you need the transmission final drive ratio and the rear tire diameter in addition to the proposed gear ratio's. With that you can figure your cruise rpm to pick the right gears. It also helps to know your torque curve details, as in what rpm you get up on the curve, and where your HP and torque fall off on the top - i.e. what you consider your red line. A 3000 to 3400rpm stall converter seems very tall for the street, but one step at a time.
how big is the cam . what is the cr of engine . what size of carb . how tall is the rear tire . built many 454 for the street used many with 330sto4.56s gears. and many 2500to 4500 stalls on the street in the last 30 years whats you idea of a street car ? hi ways not much fun past 3.90 less your running a tall tire . more gear may help get you in to the power band faster of the engine or loser stall
11-246-3 cam, .552 lift, 10.5 to1 compression, 860 pro systems carb, 27 inch tires . It's a fti stall, I called and that's what he suggested for stall. Don't do much hiway driving.
Cam is 1800-6000k
cca 11-246-3 comp cam 274/266 230/236@.050 1800 to -6000 strong mid range 2200+ stall.i have used cams this size in many 454 s 3.30 grear should work ok. but most guys use 3.50 to 3.70 with that size tire . its more CR of engine . port runner size . intake. tune up may be off
Really depends on how you use the car, and if you have an OD gear or not. If you only drive locally or trailer to events and only want it to cruise the event and hit the local main drag to impress the troops; or if you want it as a driver, to drive to an event several hundred miles away, getting decent mileage and still having some punch for play time. Like Pat says, what do you consider a "street car"?
Is a 3k stall to big if it set up tight
If you want your "usable" rpm range to be from 3000 to 6000 under power then it works. Generally for the street guys want a wider range of use, especially if it's not a locking converter. What do you want from the car?Quote:

Just a good hard running car to run on the street
