I am happy with my Lokar. It's better than the earlier models, has neautral and reverse lock-outs. The Gennie Co. went out of business and I think is being run by someone new. I thought they're mounting was flimsy (worse than my Lokar!) and heard of quality / longevity problems. fwiw, my opinion!!
Lokar is a quality product and is a continually growing company. Gennie, as said by 34_40 may or may not be in business, therefore, any repair parts in the future may not be available.
pass on the genie. the shift lever wears out and will no longer lock in park. piss poor design to begin with .
Thanks Guys a great help,I was 90/10 Lokar anyway so now will order one.
I installed a Lokar shifter in my '72 El Camino with a 2004R trans. The shifter uses a threaded rod to operate the lever on the trans. I didn't want to use a cable shifter. The Lokar unit and hardware is first rate. I also had to buy a switch from Lokar for the back up lights.
When I got to the point in the build on my coupe where I needed a shifter, I couldn't afford a Gennie or a Lokar, so I made my own. I have about $6 in it (for two 3/8" heim joints). I used the shifter lever from a '51 Ford pickup and scrap steel I had left over from other stuff.:3dSMILE:
