In park the engine has no load, but in gear at high rpm you're under max load. Could be plugs breaking down, insufficient dwell for the coil to fully load, or ???? Can you give us some specifics on the engine, cam, heads, compression, fuel delivery, ignition, etc?? Doesn't sound like a tranny problem to me, at least based on what you've told is so far....

It has a new set of spark plugs and it is still the same. its a 350 chevy engine bored .60 over, has a mild cam, chevy 305 heads with 11:1 compression, edelbrock 600 carb, and it has a stock ignition from a 1978 camaro.
