Ok bad jokes aside from the title, I swapped out the saginaw 4 speed in the shop truck build (57' GMC) to a 68/69 Muncie 4 speed, both have the same splines, however my slip yoke will not go on all the way, at best 2" down the tail shaft of the muncie. upon further inspection i noticed that the splines on the saginaw run the full length of the tail shaft, while the muncie they run about mid way down the shaft, both same lengths.

so why oh why is the muncie splined only to the mid point, keep in mind there is no threaded hole on the end of the shaft for a hard mounted yoke. the yoke im using is (from what im told at the tech shop) the shortest length they make which is 5" from end of the yoke to the center of the housing for the universal. so is there another slip yoke i should be running? possibly one that is smooth/splined for the muncie to adapt to. im just not sure since the shop told me they thought it sounded like it should be a hard mounted yoke but thats not right either and all the ones i've seen for sale are universal for both saginaw and muncie?
