Transmission ID Help Please
Hi folks. I have a GM TH 700R4 transmission that I'd like help in indentifying.
The tag on the bellhousing portion reads '08667627'.
The number engraved into the case just above the pan is '619T, (can't read the next character), then an M, (then either a Y or an X), (then either an O or a Q), then 2926271'.
Like it could be 619T_MYO2926271? It was taken from an '89 Chevy S-10 pickup truck which had a 4.3 L. engine.
I'd like to couple this to a stock GM 283 c.i. engine. Can I use the same flexplate and convertor that was in the 4.3 installation?
Thanks ever so much for the info (in advance). perleyToo old to work, Too poor to quit.

In it's stock form I would say no. The 700R4 that was used behind the V6 is a light duty version. It may work for a short time but the extra torque of the V8 will shorten it's life. Yes it will bolt up useing all stock pieces. I put a 700R4 (1988 V8 Camaro version) behind a 1969 307.

I wouldn't worry about it being from a V6.
I believe it may only have one less friction and steel plate in the 3-4 clutch pack.
The 283 probably doesn't have a whole lot more torque than the 4.3.
The same torque converter is OK, but I don't know if the 283 has a smaller flexplate and different starter than the 4.3.
If so , use the 283 flexplate.

That sounds great to me 123P. I'll have to wait until the engine shows up here to see what is on the back of the thing. And thanks for identifying the year too! Now another question. The torque convertor has a tag with the number 8653702. Can someone help by identifying this, stall etc. Thanks. perleyToo old to work, Too poor to quit.

Thanks very kindly 123P. Do you think that this unit will be OK for the 283? perleyToo old to work, Too poor to quit.

Is it going into a build, or making a trip to NM?
