please help me identify my transmission
for Bulk Part – Welcome to Bulkpart Transmission Parts and Transmission Coolers
they have a kit for me, but They cannot tell me which one, and I have no idea.
I have a 1965 LTD 352 engine, fordomatic transmission.
these are the choices I have :
, Ford - rear wheel drive, Bulkpart transmission parts
I think it is a cast iron case, but their is a choice there as well.

Not exactly sure what you are asking, but the transmission in that car should have been a Cruisamatic.

Then YOU have to be more spacifick.
Because a 289 is a small block motor and a 352 is a big block motor
and the trany's won't inter change, The 390 is also a big block.

gasp!
this quote: ((((((( ( "So, if your Galaxy has a 289 or 352, it should have the Small version and if it is the 390 engine, it should have the Medium one.
The Large were used in Lincolns.

came from one of the links provided by a helpful member. The word SHOULD scares me.
The bell housing on these transmissions comes off, so the same trans could easily be on both 289 and or 352.
I am down to figuring out if it has a 9 7/8" case, or a 10 1/4" case. I will figure this out, and put it on this post for the next dummy like me.
Thank you guys for all of the help.

If the trans' are different why not go to your parts store order the rear seal for each then the one that is right would be the trans you have..Then you would know.Charlie

Do you have a picture of the trany pan from the bottom.
I had a C - 4 in my 1965 Ranchero with the removable bell housing but it would not fit a 352 but it will a 351 Cleveland and a 351 Windsor.
I would not put a C - 4 behind a big block motor.
I would use either a FMX or a C - 6. or even a Manual for the fun factor.

Isn't there any numbers on the trans that can be looked up? I know you can on manual transmissions but maybe not on auto's?
Just a thought.Bug

I don't know if you are still needing info on your transmission, but if you do I did some more digging for you. I have some old Motors Manuals at my shop and tonight I looked up what transmissions were available in 1965 Fords. Basicallly, it boils down to two versions of the Cruiseomatic in your full size Ford with 352. It can either be a single range or dual range, and the difference seems to be that the dual range has an DRIVE ONE and DRIVE TWO positions, whereas the single range only has Low and Drive.
There is a tag on the right side of the transmission that should give you some numbers, and here are some pictures I took of the manual so you could read it for yourself.

Oh, that little note number 7 next to PCD-U and PCD-Z means it is a column shift. If you have a floor shift automatic, that would be note number 8, and your tag should read PCD-V or PCD-AA.Last edited by Itoldyouso; 09-03-2011 at 06:54 PM.
I saw last night on fb about John. The world sure lost a great one. I'm going to miss his humor, advice, and perspective from another portion of the world. Rest in Peace Johnboy.
